Where do your (tax deductible) donations to AAMP go?

When AAMP first began we were focused on helping kids to experience music. We quickly realized that while we wanted to focus on kids, we wanted to be able to help any local folks experience music. We then also decided that we didn’t want to stop with just music, but to embrace all forms of art.

This is the story of our first, but hopefully not last, recipients looking for assistance with photography!

We were thrilled to be able to purchase this $419 Cannon camera kit for a local man with the Athens Photo Project!

AAMP camera recipientIn his request he said “Athens photo project has helped me better understand my mental health and coping skills while around others that love photography. I’ve accelerated into commercial photography which is helping me with social anxiety and learning to mingle with others in the field. “

He included this sample of his work that we thought was wonderful!

If you don’t know about the Athens Photo Project , they are an excellent local organization with a wonderful mission.

We are a community of artists dedicated to using photography as a tool for self-expression, personal growth, and social change within the mental health recovery journey. Working in Appalachian Ohio for more than 20 years, we explore the boundaries of photography and mental health while reaching diverse audiences with our images.”

They offer classes, exhibitions and even have a super cool public art installation called “A Thousand Words” with their photography posted outdoors along the walls of our local uptown parking garage.

This gentleman was so incredibly happy to receive the camera kit and I think we will be seeing more beautiful works from him in the future!

This is just one of the many stories of the recipients of Athens Artists Memorial Project, all made possible by the generosity of our donors in helping us to help local folks in our community experience music and the arts.

Thank You!
