AAMP donation to local photographer

AAMP was happy to donate $500 to a local photographer named Rich who requested funding to help publish his book. His photography has been commissioned by various publications including NPR, The Atlantic, The New York Times,, The Wall Street Journal, ProPublica, NBC News, and The Associated Press, among others.

He wrote:

“I’m seeking funding to support the publication of my forthcoming monograph, 1804, which will be released by LIARS CORNER. Like many fine art photography books, the financial responsibility for production rests largely with the artist. While I am working closely with a publisher, I must independently cover the majority of the costs associated with printing and distribution.

1804 is the final volume in a trilogy exploring identity, heritage, and place in Appalachian Ohio. This work focuses on the evolving relationship between Ohio University and the surrounding community—a complex interplay of tradition, youth culture, and economic interdependence. The book examines how the university functions as both a progressive enclave and a modern-day company town, shaping the identities of those who pass through and those who remain.

This project follows my previous monographs:

• Black Diamonds – A visual study of former coal mining boomtowns in Southeast Ohio, capturing the physical and emotional remnants of a once-dominant industry.
• Little Cities – An exploration of how Indigenous peoples and settler-colonial descendants have shaped and inhabited the Appalachian Ohio landscape over generations.

With 1804, I aim to complete a body of work that chronicles how economic, cultural, and geographic forces continually redefine the fabric of life in this region.”

We wish him the very best with the release of his new book! You can find more information about his prior works here.

And as always, if you want to see more art in and from SE Ohio, please donate.
