Julie Woodburn has dedicated 24 years to teaching kindergarten through fourth-grade art in Hocking County. Throughout her career with Logan-Hocking Local Schools, where she teaches at three of the district’s five elementary schools—Green, Hocking Hills, and Union Furnace—she has had the privilege of watching generations of students grow, create, and develop confidence through art.
Woodburn holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University. Her classrooms operate on an open studio model that emphasizes creativity, exploration, personal expression, and the artistic process, valuing these experiences as highly as the final artwork. While she believes students should take pride in their accomplishments, she views experimentation, problem-solving, risk-taking, and discovery as the foundation of meaningful artistic learning.
As an art educator, Woodburn strives to inspire and empower students to think and work like artists. She works to create inclusive, welcoming environments where every child feels safe, confident, and capable of expressing their ideas. Her teaching approach encourages individuality, creativity, perseverance, and growth while helping students develop skills that extend far beyond the art room.
Woodburn is an active member and leader within the Ohio Arts Education Association (OAEA), currently serving as Vice President of Regions. She engages students in OAEA initiatives, including Youth Art Month, and actively supports community art opportunities that connect students, families, educators, and local organizations.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Woodburn serves as the Enrichment Coordinator at Green Elementary and as the district’s Teacher Leader for Unified Arts, supporting collaboration and communication among elementary special-area educators. She also serves on the board of the Logan Theater.
Woodburn is excited to join the TAAP board and looks forward to contributing her experience as an art educator, advocate, and community arts leader. She is especially passionate about encouraging and supporting fellow artists and educators throughout Southeast Ohio and helping create meaningful opportunities for collaboration, creativity, and artistic growth.
