Hello friends of the Athens Artists Project! Just a quick note here to show off a few new recipients of awards from our group.
First up, Aariyanna recieved a new violin, which she really really wanted. She has played the violin in the past and she really enjoyed it. She would love to start playing again, but does not have the funds to obtain one. Aarianna is ADHD and autistic and is interested in learning a new skill set to use as a coping skill. She really enjoys music and has played a violin in the past, but cannot afford one.
Next, Jamie got a new guitar! Jamie is a 19 year old man who has a passion for music and frequently creates songs with a computer program. Jamie has always wanted to receive guitar lessons but has been unable to afford them. Jamie experienced some unique challenges in his upbringing. Despite this, Jamie has show amazing resilience and utilizes creating music as his primary coping mechanism.
And finally, Puddle was awarded a new sewing machine!
“I am employed but live under the poverty line. All of my income goes to housing costs, caring for my pets, and my car payments/gas. My art practice is in part used to explore and process childhood trauma. Currently, I am learning about quilting and its history of processing grief (the aids quilt, graveyard quilts, etc). I am also exploring the appachian history of it to help foster a better sense of identity, something I wasn’t able to explore safely or fully as a child. I am using ceramics as a practice of non-attachment and meditation. Access to funds for materials to would directly benefit my therapeutic efforts. I heard about your organization while I was an Americorps member at The Athens Photo Project.”
